Kings Hall Event 24th March 3pm - 7pm
You may have read in the local press about the report commissioned by Canterbury City Council from Humberts Leisure into the future of Herne Bay Pier. Council representatives and some of those who compiled the report will be at the Kings Hall on Wednesday 24th March to answer your questions about their conclusions. We'll be there too and hope our members will join us during the afternoon.
November News
On 26 November Canterbury City Council approved plans for the relocation of all the sports facilities currently located on the pier. This is an important milestone in our campaign for the pier's regeneration and means that the real work on what we want in their place can begin in the New Year. The council's budget includes the provision of £425,000 capital expenditure to demolish the Pier Pavilion.
We are continuing to build our membership base and held our first members meeting in November. The Pier Trust's Chairman, Stephen Parry, explained our aims and ambitions and David Reed from the City Council answered questions about the relocation plans. The meeting was attended by more than half the total membership and many questions were asks and suggestions for the future put forward.

The Pier Trust would like thank James and Anne Connolly of the Bun Penny, for so generously donating a 32" LCD television and organising a fundraising raffle in our support, aided by Pete Revell. We are most grateful to all the many individuals and businesses in the town who helped sell raffle tickets. The raffle raised a total of £650 towards our funds. THANK YOU ALL.
SUMMER 2009
Over the summer we were involved with a number of fundraising and publicity events in the town.
August 22nd was the start of Herne Bay's festival. We opened the Pier Cafe for tea and raised £108 for our work. We also invited children to help us make a giant collage about what they would like to see on a future rebuilt pier. There were some wonderful imaginative ideas, so thank you all.

Many thanks to Paul Jennings for filming this event and producing the film above about the work of the Pier Trust.

Graham Cooper, our Press and Publicity Officer, has been interviewed about the work of the Pier Trust on Cabin Radio and KMFM.

On August 14th we opened the Pier Cafe during Herne Bay's Annual Crab Competition and raised £155 towards our operating fund. We'd like to thank all those who helped us on the day as well as Mount Ephraim, The Berkeley Hotel and Michael Khoury for their generous donations.

Thanks to all of you who came along to support us at this event Follow this link to see some pictures from the day.

We took part in the Herne Bay Carnival on August 8th and collected a large contribution to the Carnival funds.

We would like to thank local business Bay Embroidery for designing and printing our brilliant new T shirts.

On August 25th Animate Arts Company from Canterbury organised the pebble mosaic on the beach and with the help of local children they produced this fantastic picture of the pier, stretching out towards the distant pier head.

Harold Gough
A new (and updated) colour edition of Harold Gough's book HERNE BAY'S PIERS has recently been published by the Herne Bay Historical Records Society in honour of Harold's death last year. Copies are available from Herne Bay Museum and local bookshops.
Charitable Status
The Herne Bay Pier Trust has now been awarded full charity status and is a registered charity number 1128253. This means we have started enrolling members and raising funds toward the regeneration of the pier.
Logo
The Trust's logo was designed by Eric Stair, a local Herne Bay resident. It has been developed, with the assistance of City Council design staff into the final version. The Mr Stair's design was chosen from among a number of entries submitted in a competition organized by the Trust in conjunction with the Herne Bay Gazette. Mr Stair was presented with his prize of a digital camera at the official unveiling of the logo at the Trust's March meeting.
