A new exhibition opens at The Gallery this week. Peter Gander is a local artist, well-known for his humorous postcards and prints. His first painting of Herne Bay commemorates the Pier Pavilion and shows the pier and bay festooned with colourful characters enjoying the Crab Competition in a Where’s Wally style image full of delightful detail.
Peter has donated all funds for the auction of this painting to the Trust. The lucky winner of the auction (any visitor to the Gallery can see the original) will get a ‘bit on the side’ as Peter designed the painting with a saucy image covered up by the Trust’s logo when it appears as a postcard. Postcards are available at the Gallery and half the proceeds of these donations will go to the Trust. Peter said ‘I’d like to see more seaside postcard-writing as they are dying out against the competition of the convenient but charmless, holiday text. The pavilion postcard will make a great keepsake after the building is gone.”
Peter is also exhibiting some slightly more serious local paintings at the Gallery for the whole of September, so have a gander soon.
